Ranchhodraiji Dakor Temple is located in Gujarat and was originally known for Shiva worship. Over time, it became a significant site for Vaishnavites when Ranchhodraiji, a form of Lord Krishna, was worshiped here. It is one of the key temples in Gujarat in terms of cultural significance.
This temple, located near the Gomati River, was built in the 18th century. The structure is made of marble and is dedicated to Lord Ranchhodrai (another name for Lord Krishna). The temple features a 1-meter tall statue of the deity and is beautifully decorated with gold- and silver-covered wooden sculptures.
Meaning of Ranchhodraiji Temple
The RANCHODDRAI TEMPLE in Gujarat is dedicated to Lord Krishna, also called Ranchhod. The temple is built from red stone and features stunning sculptures and filigree work on the walls. The idol of Lord Krishna is made from black marble. The front door of the temple is adorned with stained glass in colors such as yellow, blue, and green. This feature makes the temple even more attractive to visitors, symbolizing the fine art craftsmanship of the past.
Puja Timings and Bhoga
Morning Timings:
The temple opens at 6 AM and closes at noon. During this time, there are five darshans, and Aartis are performed, namely: Mangalabhog, Balbhog, Srinagarbhog, Gwalbhog, and Rajbhog.Evening Timings:
The temple reopens at 4 PM and closes at 7 PM. There are three darshans during this time, with Aartis: Usthapanbhog, Shyanbhog, and Shakhdibhog.Full Moon Days:
On full moon days, the darshan timings and procedures change, and they are announced by temple authorities.
The daily Bhogas, worth approximately ₹7,000, are offered to the deity. These offerings are handled by sevakas (priests), who also distribute prasad to devotees.
Registered groups can offer additional Bhogas like Mahabhog and Rajbhog. These offerings are made under the temple’s regulations, and the trustee may receive prasad, except Rajbhog. All offerings, including additional Bhogas, are handled through the Dakor Sansthan Trust.
Festivals Celebrated at Ranchhodraiji Temple
Around 35 festivals are celebrated at the Dakor Temple. Some of the major festivals include:
- Kartik, Falgun, Chaitra, and Ashwin Purnimas
- Holi, Amalaka Ekadashi, Janmashtami, Nand Mahotsav, Rathyatra, and Dashera.
During these festivals, over 1,000 devotees gather at the temple. For Janmashtami, the idol of Krishna is taken out in a procession on an elephant. Music accompanies the procession as devotees sing and dance in rhythm.
